The Great Poems Guide
This post explains the reasons why poems are posted on The Everything Scholar's Substack to inspire greatness and how the posts of poems will work
Dear Reader,
If you are reading this I hope you like poetry, and certainly poetry from the greats at that. The following is the guide for The Everything Scholar’s posted lists of Great Poetry, which I believe, can inspire greatness in all those that read them.
The selected works that will follow in the “Great Poems” section of my page shall be works that I have particularly chosen and know well, which I believe are glorious works of art and excellent examples of verse and humanity.
In every post of the Great Poems there will, of course, be the poem itself written out with its author and name, plus a brief explanation of the background of the poem, its meaning and, if necessary, its authors life, along with the reasons why I find it worthy to be a poem which you should keep up your sleeve. After all, every aspiring Scholar ought to have at least passing knowledge of the great works of poetry and literature, as it is not only a great bunch of words, but actually an expression of the human spirit, to write poetry.
Not to be cliche, but to quote the movie Dead Poets’ Society:
“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
In all, as I have mentioned, the goal for my Substack is to promote learning, knowledge and truth of all kinds, and I wish for there to be subjects on my Substack which shall please every single Scholar. Indeed, if poetry is not your cup of tea, you may ignore every “Great Poems” post, I am sure there will be something within your taste on my page. Whether it is literature, philosophy, culture or anything in-between, you should be able to find it.
After all, poetry and other great works are a form of truth as I see it. Beauty inherent in literature touches something inside the human soul. The sensation of which is matched by little else. It hits something which lies deep within us, something that is a truth of humanity itself. The ability for poetry and literature to access this deep form of humanity within all of us makes them expressions of undeniable truths of the human condition.
That being said, I hope you stay tuned for everything my page has to offer, the Poems For Greatness included.
Kindest Regards,
The Everything Scholar
